Downloading the Offline Installer for Office 2021

Recently I purchased Office 2021 at a fire sale price (considering it’s 2023 as I’m writing this), and when I went to download the offline installer the file was corrupted (shoddy wireless connection). When I went back to get the link again, I was put through a gauntlet of dead ends until I finally found the correct place, no thanks to Microsoft.

I’ll cut to the chase: where you want to go is here:

Microsoft account > Services & subscriptions shows the products you’ve purchased and the option to install them.

The Services & subscriptions tab will show you products that you’ve purchased, regardless of whether it’s a subscription or a lifetime license. This is horrible user experience, made worse by the fact that you can’t get here from the orders page or the Microsoft 365 page. Microsoft’s support article suggests the latter, while choosing “Install from your Microsoft account” on the Office Setup page takes you to the former.

The very helpful link that does not take you to the installer.

Note that if you have not linked your key to your account before you will need to do that on the setup page first.

The support articles and forum posts refer to the Office website, which is now replaced by Microsoft 365. The only option on this page is to install Microsoft 365, and it will refuse to give you links to other Office products.

All Office is now 365. You will be assimilated.

This has mostly devolved into me complaining about Microsoft, but considering it took me a solid 45 minutes to find a link that I need to install software that I just paid for, I hope you’ll forgive the rant. Here’s hoping I was able to make someone’s life easier.
